About Ignation

Ignation [ig-ney-shuh n]

"Because let's be honest, it's easier to blame external things around us. But if greatly improving your life came only by changing something within yourself, would you?"

Playing outside in the middle of a desert in California, a man walking by heard the music and came over saying, “I heard the music from around the corner, and thought to myself ‘that’s a really good 3 piece band’, but when I came over I was like, ‘Holy sh**! There’s only two of ‘em making all that sound!’”

A duo band formed entirely of just bass, drums, & vocals; Ignation is a uniquely put together band originally from the Albany, NY area. A 6-string bassist leading with bluesy vocals and a female drummer who raps, screams, and sings backup, Ignation fuses multiple genres, including heavy rock/metal, blues, r&b, hip-hop, & elements of pop. Their sound is often compared to the vocals of Chris Cornell and Beyonce meets a funkier and heavier Rage Against the Machine. (And Zac's voice is the one that incorporates Chris Cornell & Beyonce, not Tiff's! Apparently there's also something about his voice being like a unicorn, but we don't know how to explain that one!)

Ignation was started by bassist and singer-songwriter, Zac Myatt. People often end up finding themselves surprised when seeing how involved his bass playing is while still managing to sing such strong lead vocals; incorporating both guitar and bass parts simultaneously while he plays. He has played for numerous acts, including regularly playing with Mike Campese (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Guitar Player Magazine), George Williams (Unspoken), Ray Jung (Jazz Bassist/Guitarist), the Silver Arrow Band, and has performed at the Chance Theatre, the Egg, Proctors Theater, & more. He is also an endorsed artist with MTD Kingston basses, Bartolini Pickups, and Diago Guitar Gear.

Throughout his music career, Zac was offered various promising musical opportunities as a bassist, but ultimately turned them down with a craving for an original project that offered more than just musical entertainment. And so began Ignation.

Ignation had a variety of musicians who have played with and contributed to the sound of the band, bouncing the band between being a 3-piece and 4-piece. However, in 2018 they finally solidified the lineup as a 2-piece with the role of drummer being filled by someone rather unexpected; their manager. 6 years previously, Tiffany started off doing photography and graphic design for the band. Feeling strongly connected with the vision of the band, she eventually became their manager. But after multiple line-up changes, especially with drums, she decided to take up the role of drummer herself. This unexpected turn contributed to the band's message of not letting challenging circumstances hinder your pursuits.

"With all that this project entails, I find playing the music is the easiest part."

- Zac

The band's goal wasn't to just play music as a living, but instead to use their music and lives to both encourage and challenge their audience. As the band's members faced life's obstacles both as individuals and as a band together, they found the biggest obstacle to overcome was themselves. The band wants to encourage the idea that we don't have to let our situations define us. We can overcome them, but only by letting go of some of our mindsets and allowing ourselves to grow. When you realize you're not restrained by your circumstances, and you have that choice, that's where they believe people can start on a path of breaking free, finding hope, and moving forward. When we believe we're stuck wherever life leaves us, we're unable to move beyond our situations.

Although many of their songs are about deeper topics of the human condition, they're also very big on incorporating some of their humor and some fun audience interaction throughout their shows. One prominent example being Tiffany's black drum set; rather than having their logo on her kick head, it instead displays a panda face she designed, nicknaming it "the Panda-kit" (which really has no true relevance to the band, it was strictly done because she thought it was funny!)

The band has toured throughout the U.S. on their own and with the Extreme Tour for a few years now, played on stages like Rocketown in Nashville, headlined festivals with acts such as Egypt Speaks and Jordan Copas, and has had the honor of doing shows with many other acts including White Collar Sideshow, Black Jewelz, Park 7, We Were Once, Kardia, Epic Season, & more.

The band is in the process of relocating and doing some serious renovating on their branding and songs, with several singles expected to be released throughout 2021. Eventually these will lead to the release of their full length album titled "Humanitis", which will be focusing on the concept of having to overcome our own human frailties in life. It is scheduled to be released early 2022, which will be followed by a release tour.
